The 98th Annual NAACP National Convention will be held at COBO Conference / Exhibition Center in downtown Detroit and we are seeking a number of volunteers to make this event successful.

The Detroit Branch NAACP would like to take this opportunity to thank you for giving a few hours of your time to help make this convention one of the best in the history of Annual Conventions held by the National Office. We look forward to several thousand attendees in our city and with your help, we will greet our guests with a Big Detroit Welcome!!!  Your job as a volunteer will be most important.  They will be your guest!

The convention runs from July 7-12, 2007, but volunteers are also needed prior to the convention (starting on July 3rd).  Volunteers are needed in a variety of locations including COBO and various downtown hotel properties.  Volunteers will welcome guests to our region, provide visitor information and assist with various duties prior to the convention.  Volunteers will work closely with the following NAACP Committees:

  1. Welcome/Host Committee
  2. Kit Committee
  3. Publicity Committee
  4. Souvenir Journal Committee
  5. Transportation/Security Committee
  6. Ushers Committee
  7. ACT-SO Committee (providing support for the NAACP ACT-SO Director)
  8. Youth Committee
  9. Historical Markers Committee

Key Volunteer Information

  • AGE REQUIREMENT:  Must be 18 or older.
  • WAIVER: All volunteers must accept the online waiver.
  • DEADLINE:  The deadline to  volunteer is July 6, 2007 at noon.
  • AVAILABLE POSITIONS:  Please make sure to review all available positions and to view the information associated with each area before choosing which area(s) you are interested in.  Keep in mind that some positions require lifting heavy boxes.
  • UNIFORM:  All volunteers will be provided with a Polo Shirt.  Please be sure to provide your shirt size.  Please wear black pants and comfortable shoes.
  • REQUIRED TRAINING:  There are two training sessions to choose from.  Each training session is approximately two hours long. (Please note that you are only required to attend one traning session).  The locations are as follows:
    • June 30, 2007:  Northwest Activities Center
    • July 5, 2007:  Blue Cross/Blue Shield
